Core Strengthening... Not Just A Pain in the Side!

Allstar Cheerleading is a very tough sport!  Not only do athletes need to lift their fellow teammates and tumble all over the mat, but they have to smile and do it on the right count too.  Cheerleading routines are judged on several criteria including:  stunts, jumps, dance, and tumbling.  However, tumbling has become a huge part of the sport of Allstar Cheerleading!

The coaching staff gets the same question from both parents and athletes on a daily basis:  What can I do to tumble better?

The easy answer is to get into the gym as much as possible!  Whether it’s a tumbling class or a practice, the quickest way to learn anything is repetition.  We offer tumbling classes throughout the week at all different levels in order to help our athletes achieve their tumbling goals.

There are several things that we see in all successful tumblers:

  1. Hard Work – Athletes have to give it their all!
  2. Willingness to Try – If a coach says you can do it…Go do it!
  3. Repetition – “Practice makes perfect”…Get to class!
  4. Strength – If you are struggling to accomplish your tumbling goals it’s probably because your body is not strong enough!  We use two main body positions while tumbling: the Arch and the Hollow.  Tumbling is really just moving from one of these body positions to another.  That movement is controlled by your Core.  Therefore, the stronger your core is, the better you’ll be at tumbling!
